Roseman University College of Dental Medicine prerequisites
What Roseman asks for in the 2026-27 cycle, as read from the school's own admissions page. 6 lines differ from the standard dental school set, marked below.
Coursework
- Biology with labrequireddiffers
2 semesters · 8 credits
Most dental schools ask for 2 semesters · 8 credits · lab.
"Six semester courses in Biological Sciences (with lab, if offered)", far beyond the two-semester baseline, and the single largest planning difference at this school. The page names Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Histology, Cell Biology and Embryology among the biological sciences coursework. No credit figure is recorded because Roseman counts courses rather than hours, and the lab flag is left off because the requirement is conditional: lab only if your institution offers one with the course.
- General chemistry with labrequireddiffers
2 semesters · 8 credits
Most dental schools ask for 2 semesters · 8 credits · lab.
"Two semester courses in Inorganic/General Chemistry (with lab, if offered)." Same two-semester length as the baseline, but the laboratory is conditional on your school offering it rather than flatly required, so no lab flag is set.
- Organic chemistry with labrequireddiffers
2 semesters · 8 credits
Most dental schools ask for 2 semesters · 8 credits · lab.
"Two semester courses in Organic Chemistry (with lab, if offered)." Lab conditional, as with the other sciences here.
- Biochemistryrequired
1 semester · 3 credits
Roughly half of schools require a semester and the share grows every cycle. The DAT does not test it, but first-year dental biochemistry assumes you have seen it.
- Physics with labrequireddiffers
2 semesters · 8 credits
Most dental schools ask for 2 semesters · 8 credits · lab.
"Two semester courses in Physics (with lab, if offered)." Lab conditional.
- English or writing-intensiverequired
2 semesters · 6 credits
"Two semester courses in Communication/English/Speech." Broader than the baseline's English or writing requirement: a speech or communication course answers it. "ESL course work does not meet this requirement."
- Anatomy and physiologyrecommended
3 credits
Named by a minority of schools and useful preparation for the first year regardless.
- Microbiologyrecommended
3 credits
Required at a meaningful minority and recommended widely; a strong pick for the spare science slot.
Experience hours
- Dentist shadowingrequireddiffers
50+ hours
Most dental schools ask for 100+ hours.
"We require 50 hours of shadowing experience." Half the baseline's working figure, and one of the few dental schools to publish a firm number.
- Non-clinical volunteeringrecommended
100+ hours
Few schools publish a number; committees still read for a service habit held over time.
Letters
- Committee letterrecommended
1 letter
A committee letter is preferred if your college offers one, and it replaces the three individual letters rather than adding to them.
- Science faculty letterrequired
2 letters
Where no committee letter is available, "three letters of evaluation are required. Two of these letters must be from science faculty", with the third from "another faculty member (any field) or from a health professional." The third slot is open, so only the two science letters are recorded as a firm count.
- Dentist letternot required here
Roseman names no dentist letter. The third letter may come from "another faculty member (any field) or from a health professional", which a dentist satisfies but so does anyone else in the health professions, and a faculty letter closes the packet without any clinician at all. Shadowing is still required separately at 50 hours.

Roseman counts courses, not credit hours: "Six semester courses in Biological Sciences (with lab, if offered)", "Two semester courses in Inorganic/General Chemistry (with lab, if offered)", "Two semester courses in Organic Chemistry (with lab, if offered)", "One semester course in Biochemistry", "Two semester courses in Physics (with lab, if offered)", and "Two semester courses in Communication/English/Speech". Two constraints sit on top of that list and matter for planning: "These courses must be completed within ten years of applying", and "ESL course work does not meet this requirement." A minimum of 60 semester credit hours of college work is needed to be considered. On scores, "Candidates must achieve a minimum science GPA of 3.0 in the last 30 hours of science courses" for initial consideration, and Roseman publishes hard DAT floors on the current 200 to 600 scale: Academic Average 370, Perceptual Ability 360, Reading Comprehension 340, Biology 370, Survey of Natural Sciences 380. "DAT scores older than three years at the time of application will not be accepted." AADSAS and supplemental applications are both due October 1, 2026 for this cycle. The second Roseman dental URL (dental.roseman.edu) now redirects to the college landing page, so this admissions page is the only live statement of the requirements.
