250+ hours
Most PA programmes ask for 500+ hours.
"A minimum of 250 hours of patient care experience must be accrued at the time of application submission." A low floor with a stated preference above it: "Direct, hands-on patient care of ill, injured or infirm patients in a clinical setting is preferred" and "Preference will be given to those with a heavy amount of patient interaction." "Hours obtained as a part of an educational program cannot be counted towards the 250 hours unless it involves hands-on, direct patient care. Observation or shadowing hours will not be accepted." Example roles: CNA, clinical nutritionist or dietician, clinical research assistant, community health worker, EMT, ER tech, lab assistant or phlebotomist, medic or corpsman, medical assistant, medical scribe, paramedic, Peace Corps volunteer, physical therapy aide, RN or LPN, surgical tech; the list is not exhaustive.
- Healthcare experiencerecommended
500+ hours
Creighton publishes one patient care figure and no separate healthcare experience number. Its example list is broad enough to include roles like medical scribe and clinical research assistant, but hands-on direct patient care is what the program says it prefers and scores.
- PA shadowingrecommended
20+ hours
"Preferred, but not required." No hour figure is published. "Shadowing experience in a variety of healthcare delivery settings (clinics, hospitals, nursing homes) and medical specialties is strongly recommended," and "Applicants who have spent time shadowing PAs are preferred." Shadowing is a scored review factor but never counts toward the 250 patient care hours.

This is the Omaha program; Creighton's Phoenix program is accredited and recorded separately. Omaha's prerequisite list is eight courses with credit counts: human anatomy with lab (4), physiology with lab (4), microbiology with lab (4), organic chemistry (3), biochemistry (3), abnormal psychology (3), statistics (3), and medical terminology (1), with immunology and genetics recommended at 3 credits each. General chemistry is absent from the list. "All prerequisite coursework must be completed with a grade of C (or 2.0 on a 4.0 scale) or higher," "Survey courses will not be accepted," and the program "will not accept coursework graded as Pass/Fail, obtained by CLEP Examination or Advanced Placement (AP) coursework," with pass/fail allowed only for medical terminology and for courses completed in the COVID semesters of Spring 2020 through Spring 2021. Unlike the Phoenix page, the Omaha page states no recency window for prerequisites. Timing: "No more than 12 semester hours of prerequisite coursework may be outstanding (planned or in progress) at the time of application submission," and everything must be complete with official transcripts received by July 15 before matriculation. Floors: a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited US or Canadian institution (may be in progress at application, conferred by July 15), "3.0 cumulative total GPA (as calculated by CASPA)," and "Minimum science GPA of 3.0"; there is "No minimum prerequisite GPA" but it is scored. Repeated courses are averaged, not replaced. "GRE: Not Required"; the PA-CAT is not mentioned. "Applicants must be US citizens or US legal permanent residents to qualify for admission," and a TOEFL may be required. CASPA materials are due August 1, the $50 supplemental application by September 1, interviews are rolling from September to October, and "Creighton does not give admissions preference to any specified individuals or groups of people." Scored review factors: academic achievement, patient contact experience, non-healthcare service, shadowing, well-roundedness, written communication, and references. The recent Omaha class averaged a 3.81 overall GPA, 3.91 science GPA and 3.93 prerequisite GPA; those are averages, not minimums.
