"The requirement is the complete study of the anatomy and physiology of all the major human bodily systems. Typically, this requires either two semester-long or three quarter-long courses with laboratory components to accomplish. Alternatively, Human Anatomy with lab and Human Physiology (with or without lab) will satisfy the requirement. Exercise Physiology does not satisfy this requirement." Each course at least 3 semester credits. "It is strongly recommended that anatomy and physiology coursework be completed within three to five years of application."

Commonly seen roles include athletic trainer, CNA, dental hygienist or assistant, dietician, ED technician, EMT or paramedic, home health aide, medical assistant, corpsman, mental health technician, medical research with patient contact, medical scribe, nurse, orderly or patient transport, PCT, phlebotomist, PT and PTA, radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist, surgical technician and ultrasound technician. "The position of pharmacy technician is not considered direct patient contact." Shadowing does not count.

"Administrative work performed in a health care setting will not satisfy the required 500 hours of direct patient contact, but should be recorded under the 'Health Care Experience' section of the CASPA application. Preferred rather than mandated: "individuals who have been in a supervisory capacity over the applicant". Letters from "friends, relatives, personal physicians, or instructors who do not possess a personal, supervisory knowledge of the applicants are discouraged."

Drexel counts nine prerequisite courses: one psychology, human anatomy and physiology (typically two semester courses with lab), two biology courses with labs, one microbiology, one genetics, one chemistry with lab, and a dedicated medical terminology course. "Minimum credit requirements for each course are 3 semester credits or 4 quarter credits, with the exception of medical terminology which has a minimum requirement of 1 credit." "All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of B- or higher to be accepted, with the exception of medical terminology for which 'Pass' or 'Credit' will also be accepted." Recency: "All prerequisite coursework must be completed within 10 years of matriculation, but applicants are very strongly encouraged to complete Human Anatomy and Physiology within 3-5 years of application." Courses, including labs, may be completed online at a regionally accredited US or English-speaking Canadian institution for credit and a letter grade; AP, IB and CLEP credit is accepted. "Applicants may apply with a maximum of two (2) prerequisite courses outstanding", listed as in progress or planned, and all must be done by December 31 of the application year; such applicants can only be offered provisional acceptance. "Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 and overall science GPA of 3.0, at time of application to Drexel University as calculated by CASPA, are required. Applications will not be reviewed unless the applicant has attained these minimum requirements." On testing: "Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are not required or considered." No PA-CAT or CASPer is mentioned. Two letters are required and up to five are encouraged. A bachelor's degree by the end of the spring term before fall matriculation, an interview and a CV are required. Strongly recommended electives include abnormal and developmental psychology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, statistics, nutrition, sociology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, embryology, ethics, foreign languages and public speaking. The 2026-2027 cycle opened April 30, 2026 with CASPA verification due September 1, 2026.
