Coursework

  • Biology with labrequiredextra here

    7 credits · lab

"General Biology with Lab, 7-8 credit hours." Faulkner asks for general biology in addition to anatomy, which the PA baseline does not carry, and it must be the majors-level sequence.

  • General chemistry with labrequired

    2 semesters · 8 credits · lab

The two-semester sequence with lab. Around a fifth of programs want only one semester or skip general chemistry entirely and start at organic or biochemistry.

  • Biochemistrynot required here

Faulkner's prerequisite table names no chemistry beyond General Chemistry with Lab. Neither biochemistry nor organic chemistry appears.

  • English or writing-intensivenot required here

No English or composition credits appear anywhere in the published prerequisite table.

  • Statisticsrequired

    1 semester · 3 credits

Statistics, not calculus. The exception is regional: several Oklahoma and Texas programs require college algebra instead and do not count statistics, so check those individually.

  • Psychologyrequired

    1 semester · 3 credits

General psychology. Many programs fold it into a broader social or behavioural science block that sociology or anthropology also satisfies.

  • Anatomy and physiologyrequired

    2 semesters · 8 credits · lab

Faulkner names "Human Anatomy with Lab, 8 credit hours" rather than a combined anatomy and physiology sequence. Eight hours with lab is what a two semester A&P sequence supplies, but read the catalog course list before assuming a physiology-only course counts.

  • Microbiologyrequired

    1 semester · 4 credits · lab

Named by nearly every program, usually 3 or 4 credits. A minority accept it without the lab, so read the school's own line before dropping one.

  • Medical terminologyrequireddiffers

    1 credits

Most PA programmes ask for 1 credits and list it as recommended.

Required here, not merely recommended: "Medical Terminology, 1 credit hour." One credit is the whole ask, so a short online course clears it.

Experience hours

  • Patient care experiencerequireddiffers

    200+ hours

Most PA programmes ask for 500+ hours.

"Minimum of 200 Direct Patient Care Hours (Documented in CASPA)." The program defines patient care as work in which you are directly responsible for a patient's care, naming roles such as prescribing medication, performing procedures, nursing and paramedic work. Two hundred is a genuinely low published floor by PA standards and is a minimum, not a competitive number.

  • Healthcare experiencerecommended

    500+ hours

Many programs publish one combined healthcare figure instead of splitting patient care from healthcare exposure; where they do, the number lands here. Median published minimum is 500 hours.

  • PA shadowingrecommended

    20+ hours

Faulkner lists PA shadowing as an application enhancement rather than a requirement and publishes no hour minimum for it.

Letters

  • Science faculty letterrecommended

    No published minimum

Only a handful of programs require a science faculty letter by name. An academic letter is welcome nearly everywhere and mandatory almost nowhere.

  • PA letterrequireddiffers

    1 letter

Most PA programmes publish no minimum and list it as recommended.

A PA letter satisfies Faulkner's clinician letter, but it is not the only writer who can: "At least one letter must be from an MD, DO, NP, or PA." A physician or nurse practitioner answers this line equally.

  • Supervisor letterrequireddiffers

    1 letter

Most PA programmes publish no minimum and list it as recommended.

"At least one letter must be from a supervisor or professor." A professor satisfies this line as fully as a work supervisor does. Three letters minimum overall through CASPA, and "No relatives."

Also on the school’s page

Faulkner publishes a short prerequisite table: General Biology with Lab 7 to 8 hours, Microbiology with Lab 4, Human Anatomy with Lab 8, General Chemistry with Lab 8, Statistics 3, Psychology 3, Medical Terminology 1. "All science courses must be at the level required for science majors" and each prerequisite needs a "Minimum grade of 'C'." Prerequisites must be completed before matriculation on August 1 of the enrollment year, and the page states no recency or expiration window for older coursework. The GPA floors are unusually explicit: "Overall GPA: at least 3.0, Overall Science GPA: at least 3.0, Last 60 hrs. GPA: at least 3.0." On exams, the program's page does not name the GRE or the PA-CAT anywhere, so neither appears to be part of the application; confirm with the program before assuming a score is unnecessary. Letters run through CASPA, three minimum, "No relatives."
