Logan University Physician Assistant Program prerequisites
What Logan asks for in the 2026-27 cycle, as read from the school's own admissions page. 9 lines differ from the standard PA school set, marked below.
Coursework
- Biology with labrequiredextra here
lab
"General Biology I with lab." One semester, and Logan states no credit hour figure for any prerequisite.
- General chemistry with labrequired
2 semesters · 8 credits · lab
"General Chemistry I with lab." One semester only, not the two-semester sequence the baseline assumes.
- Organic chemistry with labrequiredextra here
lab
"Organic Chemistry I with lab." One semester of organic, not the full sequence. Logan names organic rather than biochemistry, so the baseline's biochemistry line does not apply here.
- Biochemistrynot required here
Logan's required list names Organic Chemistry I with lab and no biochemistry course.
- English or writing-intensivenot required here
No English or writing requirement appears on Logan's prerequisite list, required or recommended.
- Statisticsrecommendeddiffers
1 semester · 3 credits
Most PA programmes ask for 1 semester · 3 credits and list it as required.
Statistics sits on Logan's recommended list, not its required one, alongside upper-level human science courses, physics, and pharmacology or pharmacotherapeutics.
- Psychologyrequired
1 semester · 3 credits
General psychology. Many programs fold it into a broader social or behavioural science block that sociology or anthropology also satisfies.
- Anatomy and physiologyrequired
2 semesters · 8 credits · lab
"Basic (lower level 100-200) Human Anatomy with lab" plus "Basic (lower level 100-200) Human Physiology." Anatomy carries the lab, physiology is listed without one, and Logan asks for the lower-division version specifically. "Combined A&P courses may substitute if completed as a 2-semester series with lab." No credit hours are published.
- Microbiologyrequired
1 semester · 4 credits · lab
Named by nearly every program, usually 3 or 4 credits. A minority accept it without the lab, so read the school's own line before dropping one.
- Medical terminologyrequireddiffers
1 credits
Most PA programmes ask for 1 credits and list it as recommended.
Named outright in the required prerequisite list, not left to work experience. No credit hour figure is published.
Experience hours
- Patient care experiencerequired
500+ hours
"A minimum of 500 hours of direct patient health care experience," with examples including CNA, MA, LPN, RN, DC, PT, EMT and paramedic. "Hours obtained as a student (for credit or certification) will not be counted toward the 500-hour minimum." Increased consideration goes to applicants exceeding 500 hours or holding degree-level certifications, so 500 is a floor rather than a competitive figure.
- Healthcare experiencerecommended
500+ hours
Many programs publish one combined healthcare figure instead of splitting patient care from healthcare exposure; where they do, the number lands here. Median published minimum is 500 hours.
- PA shadowingrecommended
20+ hours
Under a fifth of programs set a shadowing minimum; among those that do the median is 20 hours and a handful ask for 100 or more. Several count shadowing inside their experience total rather than separately, and a few have dropped it from scoring entirely.
Letters
- Science faculty letterrecommended
No published minimum
Only a handful of programs require a science faculty letter by name. An academic letter is welcome nearly everywhere and mandatory almost nowhere.
- Faculty letter (any discipline)requiredextra here
1 letter
Three letters total, of which "one letter must be from a professor, academic advisor, research mentor, or collegiate coach." Any discipline answers it, and Logan widens it past faculty to advisors, research mentors and coaches. "Letters from immediate family members or friends are not acceptable."
- PA letterrecommendeddiffers
1 letter
Most PA programmes publish no minimum.
Logan "recommend[s] at least one letter from a medical provider (PA/MD/DO/NP)." A PA satisfies it but is not demanded, and the letter is recommended rather than required.
- Supervisor letternot required here
Logan's three letters are one from a professor, academic advisor, research mentor or collegiate coach, with a medical provider letter recommended. No employment supervisor letter is named.
Also on the school’s page
Logan publishes a named prerequisite list without credit hours: "General Chemistry I with lab, Organic Chemistry I with lab, General Biology I with lab, Basic (lower level 100-200) Human Anatomy with lab, Basic (lower level 100-200) Human Physiology, Microbiology with lab, Psychology, Medical Terminology." Combined A&P courses may substitute if completed as a two semester series with lab. Recommended but not required: upper-level human science courses, statistics, physics, and pharmacology or pharmacotherapeutics. Recency window: "All prerequisite courses must be completed within 10 years (science courses preferably within 5 years)," and "All prerequisites must be completed with a grade option (no pass/fail)," each with a grade of "C or better (not C minus)." GPA: a "minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher" and a prerequisite GPA of 3.00 or higher, with preference to applicants above 3.2 in both. Exams: no test is required. The program lists "Competitive scores on standardized graduate entrance exams (GRE, PA-CAT, MCAT)" among the factors that earn interview preference, so the GRE, PA-CAT and MCAT are all optional and all read. A bachelor's degree must be complete before September 1 prior to matriculation, and applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. Note that this is a new program: accreditation is provisional and the first cohort matriculates in January 2027.
