Coursework

  • Biology with labrequiredextra here

    3 credits · lab

A biology course the baseline does not carry, and Chamberlain lets you choose which: "Biology (choose one) General Biology with lab, Genetics with lab, Cell Biology with lab, Molecular Biology with lab, Immunology with lab," 3 semester credit hours. The lab is required whichever course you pick.

  • General chemistry with labnot required here

General chemistry is not on Chamberlain's prerequisite table. The chemistry requirement is satisfied by biochemistry or by Organic Chemistry I, either of which will usually have general chemistry as its own prerequisite at your undergraduate institution.

  • Biochemistryrequired

    1 semester · 3 credits

Chamberlain's chemistry line is a choice of one: "Biochemistry, lab preferred" at 3 semester credit hours, or "Organic Chemistry I with lab" at 4. Biochemistry is the lighter path and its lab is preferred rather than required.

  • English or writing-intensivenot required here

No English or composition credits appear on the prerequisite table; the degree requirement is simply a bachelor's in any major.

  • Statisticsrequired

    1 semester · 3 credits

Three semester credit hours, "Statistics (choose one) Statistics, Biostatistics."

  • Psychologyrequired

    1 semester · 3 credits

Three semester credit hours, "Psychology (choose one) General Psychology, Developmental Psychology." Only one course is needed and developmental counts in place of introductory.

  • Anatomy and physiologyrequired

    2 semesters · 8 credits · lab

Eight semester credit hours, taken either as "Human Anatomy and Physiology" or as "Human Anatomy with lab and Human Physiology, lab optional." The anatomy lab is required; the physiology lab is not. Both must fall inside the ten year window.

  • Microbiologyrequireddiffers

    3 credits · lab

Most PA programmes ask for 1 semester · 4 credits · lab.

"Microbiology with lab," 3 semester credit hours. One credit lighter than the baseline, and the lab is not optional here.

  • Medical terminologynot required here

Not listed among the six required prerequisite areas.

Experience hours

  • Patient care experiencerecommendeddiffers

    500+ hours

Most PA programmes ask for 500+ hours and list it as required.

Chamberlain publishes no patient care hour minimum for the Phoenix program. Its enrollment requirements are the degree, the GPAs, the prerequisites, the GRE, three letters and a background check, with no hours line among them. Do not read the 300 hour preference figure as a floor: it is listed only as something that "may have an advantage."

  • Healthcare experiencerecommendeddiffers

    300+ hours

Most PA programmes ask for 500+ hours.

Recorded here rather than as patient care hours because Chamberlain does not split the two, writing only "300+ hours of clinical healthcare experience" among the criteria that "may have an advantage" for a limited number of seats. It is a preference, not a published minimum.

  • PA shadowingrecommendeddiffers

    16+ hours

Most PA programmes ask for 20+ hours.

"16+ hours shadowing a physician assistant," listed as an admission advantage rather than a requirement. Lower than the baseline planning figure, and specifically shadowing a PA.

Letters

  • Science faculty letterrecommended

    No published minimum

Only a handful of programs require a science faculty letter by name. An academic letter is welcome nearly everywhere and mandatory almost nowhere.

  • PA letterrecommendeddiffers

    1 letter

Most PA programmes publish no minimum.

Chamberlain asks for "Three letters of recommendation" and names no writer types at all, so no PA letter is required. A PA writer still fits the program's stated preference for PA shadowing experience.

  • Supervisor letterrecommendeddiffers

    1 letter

Most PA programmes publish no minimum.

Not required by type. The program's only letters line is "Three letters of recommendation," leaving the choice of writers to the applicant.

Also on the school’s page

Chamberlain publishes the Phoenix MPAS prerequisite table and the admission requirements on the program page. The recency window is long but firm: "The following courses are required to have been completed within the last 10 years with a grade of C or better." Entry requires a "Bachelor's degree in any major, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale" plus "Prerequisite science courses completed in the last 10 years, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale." On tests, the GRE is required, not optional: applicants submit "Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores from the past 10 years," and Chamberlain publishes no minimum score and does not mention the PA-CAT. Three letters of recommendation are required with no writer types named. Chamberlain publishes no patient care hour minimum at all; instead it lists soft preferences: "With limited seats available, applicants who meet the following criteria may have an advantage," among them "300+ hours of clinical healthcare experience," "16+ hours shadowing a physician assistant," military or veteran status, Chamberlain students and alumni, residents of a designated medically underserved area, and first generation college students. None of those is stated as a floor. The program also requires cleared background and fingerprint checks within 120 days of the enrollment start date, and it "does not offer Advanced Placement." Cohort size at Phoenix is a maximum of 50 students.
