Franklin Pierce University Physician Assistant Program Goodyear prerequisites
What Franklin Pierce AZ asks for in the 2026-27 cycle, as read from the school's own admissions page. 9 lines differ from the standard PA school set, marked below.
Coursework
- Biology with labrequiredextra here
2 semesters · 8 credits · lab
A full biology sequence the baseline does not carry: "Biology with lab (8 semester credits or 12 quarter credits)." This sits on top of the anatomy and physiology and microbiology requirements, so Franklin Pierce's science load is heavier than most on this path.
- General chemistry with labrequired
2 semesters · 8 credits · lab
Both semesters are named individually: "General Chemistry I with lab (4 semester credits or 6 quarter credits)" and "General Chemistry II with lab (4 semester credits or 6 quarter credits)." One semester will not answer this line here.
- Biochemistryrequireddiffers
4 credits · lab
Most PA programmes ask for 1 semester · 3 credits.
Heavier than the baseline and satisfiable either way: "Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry with lab (4 semester credits or 6 quarter credits)." Whichever you choose, the lab is required, which is unusual for a biochemistry prerequisite.
- English or writing-intensivenot required here
No English or composition credits appear on the prerequisite list; the only writing that is assessed is "Written communication skills" as a review indicator.
- Statisticsrequired
1 semester · 3 credits
Statistics, not calculus. The exception is regional: several Oklahoma and Texas programs require college algebra instead and do not count statistics, so check those individually.
- Psychologynot required here
Psychology does not appear on Franklin Pierce's prerequisite list. The eight prerequisite lines are anatomy and physiology, biology, two semesters of general chemistry, microbiology, statistics, and organic chemistry or biochemistry.
- Anatomy and physiologyrequired
2 semesters · 8 credits · lab
"Anatomy & Physiology I with lab (4 semester credits or 6 quarter credits)" and "Anatomy & Physiology II with lab (4 semester credits or 6 quarter credits)." Separate courses are fine: "Anatomy and Physiology may be taken as separate courses, provided the total credits received is a minimum of 8 semester credits or 12 quarter credits."
- Microbiologyrequired
1 semester · 4 credits · lab
"Microbiology with lab (4 semester credits or 6 quarter credits)." The lab is required.
- Medical terminologynot required here
Not among the published prerequisite courses.
Experience hours
- Patient care experiencenot required here
Stated flatly under Work Requirements: "Patient care experience is not required." That makes this one of the very few PA programs with no hours bar at all, and it is the single most important thing to know about applying here. It is not the same as hours being ignored: "Direct patient care experience showing responsibility, initiative, or integration into a care team" is scored as a professional readiness indicator in the holistic review, and applicants strong across multiple domains are "generally more competitive."
- Healthcare experiencerecommended
500+ hours
Recorded here rather than as a patient care figure because the program requires neither and publishes no number for either. "Healthcare experience not involving direct patient care" is listed among the "Professional readiness" indicators, next to direct patient care, maintenance of professional licensure, leadership roles, PA shadowing, demonstrated understanding of the PA role, and career progression showing increasing responsibility.
- PA shadowingrecommended
20+ hours
"PA Shadowing experience" is a professional readiness indicator in the structured review. No hour figure is published.
- Non-clinical volunteeringrecommendedextra here
No published minimum
"Community service or community engagement" is one of the mission alignment indicators in the structured review, alongside residence in a HRSA designated Medically Underserved Area or Health Professional Shortage Area, a rural background, first generation college status, bilingual or multilingual ability, and U.S. military veteran status. No hour figure is published.
Letters
- Science faculty letterrecommended
No published minimum
Only a handful of programs require a science faculty letter by name. An academic letter is welcome nearly everywhere and mandatory almost nowhere.
- PA letterrecommendeddiffers
1 letter
Most PA programmes publish no minimum.
The program names no letter count and no required writer. Letters enter the review only as "Quality and substance of letters of recommendation," one of the narrative and external validation indicators, so plan on CASPA's own letter requirements and choose writers who can speak to substance.
- Supervisor letterrecommendeddiffers
1 letter
Most PA programmes publish no minimum.
Not required by type. Franklin Pierce publishes no letter requirement of its own, scoring only the quality and substance of whatever letters arrive.
Also on the school’s page
Franklin Pierce publishes the Goodyear hybrid MPAS prerequisites, academic floors and holistic review rubric on the program page itself. The academic minimums are a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and an overall science GPA of at least 3.0. The higher figures the program lists, an overall GPA of at least 3.5, a science GPA of at least 3.4, and an overall GPA of at least 3.5 across junior and senior coursework with at least 60 credit hours in those years, are competitiveness indicators under "Academic readiness," not cutoffs: "No single attribute or experience guarantees admission or exclusion from consideration." Every prerequisite must be "passed with a grade of 'C' or better and be completed prior to matriculation," and "Applicants may apply with no more than TWO outstanding prerequisite courses." Recency is advisory: "We strongly recommend that coursework be recent, at least within the last 10 years." On tests, the program's published admission requirements name no standardized exam at all: neither the GRE nor the PA-CAT appears anywhere in the prerequisites, academic requirements, work requirements or timeline sections, and the only test named is the TOEFL for applicants born outside the United States who did not graduate from a U.S. high school. The program does not offer advanced placement or accept transfer credit. Applications must be verified by CASPA by September 1, with rolling faculty review from June and virtual interviews biweekly from mid-August until the cohort is full. Note that ARC-PA placed this program on Accreditation Probation, with the accreditation history published on the ARC-PA site.
