Coursework

  • General chemistry with labnot required here

Not on Northeast's prerequisite list; organic chemistry with lab is required instead, and chemistry grades still count toward the 3.2 BCP GPA floor.

  • Organic chemistry with labrequiredextra here

    1 semester · 4 credits · lab

"Organic Chemistry with Lab." One course; the page states no credit count.

  • Biochemistrynot required here

Not required on its own: "Microbiology with Lab or Biochemistry with Lab" is one line, and biochemistry with lab is accepted in place of microbiology.

  • English or writing-intensivenot required here

    Not on Northeast's prerequisite list.

  • Statisticsrequired

    1 semester · 3 credits

    "Statistics or Biostatistics."

  • Psychologyrequired

    1 semester · 3 credits

One course from a named set: "General, Abnormal or Developmental Psychology or Cultural Anthropology, or Sociology." A cultural anthropology or sociology course satisfies this line in place of psychology.

  • Geneticsrequiredextra here

    1 semester · 3 credits

"Human Genetics (intro or survey course acceptable)."

  • Anatomy and physiologyrequired

    2 semesters · 8 credits · lab

"Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II with Labs." Two courses, each with laboratory; the page states no credit count and no recency window.

  • Microbiologyrequired

    1 semester · 4 credits · lab

"Microbiology with Lab or Biochemistry with Lab." Either course, with its laboratory, satisfies this single line.

  • Medical terminologyrequireddiffers

    1 semester · 2 credits

Most PA programmes ask for 1 credits and list it as recommended.

Required here, not merely recommended: "Medical Terminology (must be at least 2 credits)." Online courses from regionally accredited universities are acceptable.

Experience hours

  • Patient care experiencerequired

    500+ hours

"Minimum 500 hours of paid and/or volunteer patient care experience. Eligible clinical/patient experiences in a health care field with direct patient care including but not limited to work as a nursing assistant, medical assistant, physical therapy assistant, occupational therapy assistant, optometrist assistant, certified doula, hospice care, nurse, emergency medical technician, or scribe." Scribing counts here. No average for admitted students is published.

  • Healthcare experiencerecommended

    500+ hours

Many programs publish one combined healthcare figure instead of splitting patient care from healthcare exposure; where they do, the number lands here. Median published minimum is 500 hours.

  • PA shadowingrecommended

    20+ hours

Under a fifth of programs set a shadowing minimum; among those that do the median is 20 hours and a handful ask for 100 or more. Several count shadowing inside their experience total rather than separately, and a few have dropped it from scoring entirely.

  • Science faculty letternot required here

The required professor letter carries no science restriction; recorded on the any-discipline faculty line.

  • Faculty letter (any discipline)requiredextra here

"One from a person that can attest to personal character and work ethic (e.g., work or volunteer supervisor; letters from family/extended members are not accepted)." Three letters in total.

Northeast publishes a short course list rather than credit counts, all "with a grade of B or better at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university": "Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II with Labs, Microbiology with Lab or Biochemistry with Lab, Organic Chemistry with Lab, Human Genetics (intro or survey course acceptable), Statistics or Biostatistics, Medical Terminology (must be at least 2 credits), General, Abnormal or Developmental Psychology or Cultural Anthropology, or Sociology." General chemistry, general biology and English are not on the list. A bachelor's degree "in any field from a regionally accredited U.S. institution" is required. GPA floors are firm: a minimum 3.2 cumulative undergraduate GPA and a minimum 3.2 biology-chemistry-physics GPA, both on a 4.0 scale; the page describes competitive candidates as exceeding these with a "Higher Cumulative GPA (e.g., GPA >3.4)" and "Higher BCP GPA (e.g., GPA >3.4)." Online courses from regionally accredited universities are acceptable; CLEP exams are not accepted; no advanced placement is granted. If a prerequisite was retaken, the earlier lower grade may be excluded on request by email. At most two prerequisites may be outstanding at the application deadline, and all must be completed with a B or better by August. The page states no recency window for prerequisites and does not mention the GRE, PA-CAT or CASPer. Applications go through CASPA; "All applications must be fully completed by April 1st to be reviewed by the program for September admissions," with virtual interviews by videoconference and rolling decisions. A state and national background check, CDC and New York State immunizations, and a technical standards attestation are also required. The program is a six-trimester, two-year hybrid format.
