Coursework

  • Biology with labrequiredextra here

    2 semesters · 8 credits · lab

"General Biology + Laboratory (8 credits)."

  • General chemistry with labrequired

    2 semesters · 8 credits · lab

"General Chemistry + Laboratory (8 credits)."

  • Biochemistryrequireddiffers

    4 credits · lab

Most PA programmes ask for 1 semester · 3 credits.

"Organic Chemistry + Laboratory OR Biochemistry + Laboratory (4 credits)." Either course answers this line, and unusually the laboratory is required with whichever you pick.

  • English or writing-intensivenot required here

    Not on Pace's prerequisite list.

  • Statisticsrequired

    1 semester · 3 credits

"Mathematics (Pre-calculus or Statistics) (3 credits)." Pre-calculus satisfies this line as well as statistics.

  • Psychologynot required here

    Not on Pace's prerequisite list.

  • Geneticsrequiredextra here

    1 semester · 3 credits

    "Genetics (3 credits)."

  • Anatomy and physiologyrequireddiffers

    7 credits · lab

Most PA programmes ask for 2 semesters · 8 credits · lab.

Two ways to satisfy it: "Human Anatomy + Laboratory (4 credits), Human Physiology (3 credits) OR Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II with Laboratory (7 credit minimum)." Within the past 10 years, like every prerequisite here.

  • Microbiologyrequireddiffers

    3 credits

Most PA programmes ask for 1 semester · 4 credits · lab.

"Microbiology (3 credits)." No laboratory is listed for it.

  • Medical terminologynot required here

    Not on Pace's prerequisite list.

Experience hours

  • Patient care experiencerequireddiffers

    200+ hours

Most PA programmes ask for 500+ hours.

"Minimum of 200 hours of direct patient care experience is required at time of application submission," and hours acquired after submission do not count: an application under 200 "will be flagged as does not meet minimum requirements." "Direct patient care experience is a job, internship, or volunteer position that involves providing hands-on care to patients. Examples include but are not limited to: EMT/paramedic, patient care assistant, medical assistant, phlebotomist, home health aide, and medical scribe." Documentation is required if accepted. The Class of 2025 averaged 2,526 hours of medical experience, so 200 is a floor, not a target.

  • Healthcare experiencerecommended

    500+ hours

Many programs publish one combined healthcare figure instead of splitting patient care from healthcare exposure; where they do, the number lands here. Median published minimum is 500 hours.

  • PA shadowingrecommended

    20+ hours

No hour figure is published. "Shadowing experience may be helpful for developing a better understanding of the PA profession, but it does not fulfill" the patient care requirement.

Letters

  • Science faculty letternot required here

No faculty letter of any kind is named; all three references are "from professionals."

  • PA letterrecommendeddiffers

    1 letter

Most PA programmes publish no minimum.

Pace requires "Three references from professionals (one of which must be from a health professional from any health-related field)." A PA answers the health professional letter, but so does any other health professional, so this line is recorded as recommended rather than required.

  • Supervisor letternot required here

Pace asks for three references "from professionals" with one from a health professional; no supervisor letter is named.

Pace splits its rules across an admission requirements page and an academic prerequisites page (https://www.pace.edu/college-health-professions/departments/physician-assistant/nyc/apply/academic-prerequisites); both were read. The prerequisite list: "Mathematics (Pre-calculus or Statistics) (3 credits); General Biology + Laboratory (8 credits); General Chemistry + Laboratory (8 credits); Microbiology (3 credits); Genetics (3 credits); Organic Chemistry + Laboratory OR Biochemistry + Laboratory (4 credits); Human Anatomy + Laboratory (4 credits), Human Physiology (3 credits) OR Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II with Laboratory (7 credit minimum)." Grades: "Applicants are required to complete all prerequisite science and math courses with no more than one grade below a B minus." Pass/fail is not accepted except for spring and summer 2020. Recency is ten years: "All prerequisite courses must have been completed within the past 10 years." Timing is strict: "All prerequisites must be completed at the time of application e-submission to CASPA," with grades on the transcript; an application with a course still in progress "would be flagged as does not meet minimum requirements." "Advanced Placement credits with a score of 4 or higher on the AP examination will be considered for prerequisite course requirements" if the score report is submitted through CASPA. "All prerequisite coursework must be completed at a regionally accredited college or university located within the United States," and the program "accepts applications from U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents" only. A baccalaureate from an accredited institution is required at matriculation. Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0 and minimum cumulative science GPA 3.0, calculated on all college-level courses; the Class of 2025 averaged 3.70 overall and 3.64 science, with an average of 2,526 hours of medical experience, from 1,502 verified applicants and 247 interviewed for a class of 90. On testing: "Is the GRE required? No, we do not require the GRE for application to our program." No PA-CAT or CASPer is mentioned. "Three references from professionals (one of which must be from a health professional from any health-related field)." The CASPA e-submit deadline is September 1, with the application complete (transcripts, payment and two of the three letters received) by that date; the program starts in July and does not allow deferral.
