No minimum. "Healthcare hours are not required, though they are strongly recommended, and points are awarded during the application review. Health care hours may include but are not limited to direct patient care experience, health-related experience, or health care shadowing." Marietta does not split patient care from other healthcare experience; examples given are "shadowing PAs or physicians, nursing assistant/STNA, EMT, medical assistant, phlebotomist, ER tech, respiratory therapist, etc." Hours are reported through CASPA; there is no separate log form.

  • Healthcare experiencerecommended

    500+ hours

Counted together with patient care hours in one "healthcare hours" bucket that is "not required, though they are strongly recommended." No number is published.

    20+ hours

No minimum. Shadowing PAs or physicians is listed among the healthcare experiences that earn points in application review.

A PA is the preferred writer; a physician or other health care professional also satisfies this line. Three letters total, all "from persons familiar with the PA profession."

  • Supervisor letternot required here

Marietta names no work supervisor letter; the only specified writer is a health care professional, recorded on the PA letter line.

Recency: "All prerequisite courses must have been completed within the past ten (10) years prior to application." "Online or virtual laboratory courses in the natural sciences will not be accepted to fulfill prerequisite requirements." AP credit is accepted for up to two courses but not counted in the prerequisite GPA; retaken courses have both grades included in the GPA. Applicants are strongly encouraged to finish prerequisites by December of the application year, and "the program will permit one (1) pre-requisite course 'in process' during the spring semester preceding the June program start date." A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a USDOE-recognized accredited institution is required. Testing: "Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test (verbal and quantitative) must be submitted under school code 0937. Analytical writing is not required but highly recommended. The MCAT may be used as a substitute for the GRE test. PACAT is not required but will be considered." No GRE minimum is published. Letters: "Three (3) letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the PA profession. At least one letter should be from a health care professional (preferably a physician assistant or physician) who has known the applicant for at least six (6) months." Healthcare hours are not required (see the hours lines). Genetics, immunology, virology, biochemistry, histology, pathophysiology and toxicology are named as "excellent additional classes to strengthen an application." Applications go through CASPA with a January 15 deadline and an early interview deadline of July 15; Marietta College graduates receive preference and a guaranteed interview pathway.
